October 15 marked a meaningful milestone for reproductive grief care in San Diego as the City Council officially proclaimed Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
Sara Dominguez, Strategic Initiatives & Partner Coordinator at the Institute of Reproductive Grief Care, represented the Institute at City Hall for this important recognition, joining community leaders in honoring the individuals and families affected by pregnancy and infant loss.
While this proclamation represents an important step in raising awareness, what makes this moment especially meaningful is the opportunity for lasting change.
Following the recognition, Councilmembers Raul Campillo and Marni von Wilpert are working together to explore ways to strengthen support for City employees who experience reproductive loss.
This is exactly the kind of progress the Institute hopes to inspire: moving beyond awareness to meaningful action.
Recognizing reproductive loss is essential, but ensuring that individuals receive compassionate, informed support when they need it most is where lasting change begins. Whether in healthcare settings, workplaces, or communities, every effort to acknowledge grief and improve access to support makes a difference.
We are grateful to the City of San Diego for taking this important step and to Councilmembers Campillo and von Wilpert for exploring how this recognition can translate into practical support for employees.
To our supporters and partners, thank you for helping the Institute continue to influence how communities, workplaces, and healthcare systems respond to reproductive loss. Together, we are helping create a future where no one has to navigate reproductive grief without compassionate care.
