2027 Symposium - The Emotional Emergency: Reproductive Loss Beyond the Medical Moment

This symposium introduces and explores the concept of the “emotional emergency” in reproductive loss—an urgent, yet often invisible, crisis requiring intentional, compassionate, and multidisciplinary care. Professionals from across the nation will convene to define and operationalize this concept as a foundational step in advancing whole-person, trauma-informed approaches to care. Through evidence-based education, lived experience, and interdisciplinary perspectives, participants will examine the distinction between medical stabilization and emotional support, identify gaps in current care practices, and develop strategies to integrate compassionate, responsive care across clinical, mental health, and community settings.

Partner Perspectives: Supporting Grieving Fathers and Non-Birthing Parents

When reproductive loss occurs, the medical system naturally focuses on the physical and emotional care of the pregnant patient. But what happens to the partner? Often forced into the role of 'the strong one,' partners experience high rates of disenfranchised grief and post-traumatic stress. This webinar provides frontline healthcare providers with a practical toolkit to recognize, validate, and support partners in acute loss settings. Those that attend this session live can earn 1 Contact Hour through ANCC.
